‘Our ambitions are huge’ - Scottish aparthotel operator with Edinburgh and Glasgow sites eyes UK-wide growth

“Over the course of the next two years, we plan to open a minimum of five new sites, likely starting with the UK’s cultural hubs” – Laurence Malyon, co-founder

A Scottish aparthotel start-up is targeting expansion in the UK, and beyond, after it welcomed more than 3,500 guests over its first 12 months of operating.

Moment Stays - part of Malyon Group, the boutique hospitality and property business - is pushing into more locations after securing £2 million in guest revenue since opening just over a year ago.

The aparthotel provider, which currently operates a portfolio of properties in Edinburgh and Glasgow, said it has welcomed more than 3,500 guests to date with occupancy rates averaging 91 per cent. Moment Stays secured £1m in guest bookings during its first year, and has already doubled that figure for 2026 and 2027 so far.

The venture’s Edinburgh aparthotel encompasses properties on George IV Bridge, some with castle views. In Glasgow, it operates six one-bedroom apartments on Blythswood Street.

After a successful first year, Moment is targeting the opening of a minimum of five new sites across the UK - with an eye on some of Europe’s key cities too, including Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Budapest.

Laurence Malyon, co-founder of Moment Stays, said: “It’s been a strong year, and we’re open in two very different, but equally brilliant cities. Occupancy in both has been right where we want it to be, with distinct groups of visitors favouring them: Edinburgh has mainly been short stays from tourists, while Glasgow has had more interest from business travellers and visitors for events, along with a smaller share of tourists.

“Our ambitions are huge from here, we see a Moment in each of the world’s most experience-rich places. Over the course of the next two years, we plan to open a minimum of five new sites, likely starting with the UK’s cultural hubs. Manchester, Cambridge, York, and, of course, London all feel like natural fits. Further afield, we also have Amsterdam, Lisbon, Budapest, and Rome in our sights.”

Malyon Group was co-founded in 2024 by partners Laurence Malyon and Becky McAleer. It has quickly grown to a team of eight. Prior to Malyon Group, Laurence co-founded Donnini Apartments, a short-stay holiday accommodation business.
