Home care business eyes Scottish franchise expansion
A firm providing carers at home is planning to expand its franchise network and headcount across Scotland, with one of its franchisees set to achieve turnover of £1 million next year.
Suhail Rehman started out in his Glasgow North territory in 2013 as the second Scottish franchisee of Home Instead, after selling his shares in a global technology company, and has 60 clients and 60 “care-givers”.

He has now been joined in the business by his wife Tasnim, a former business manager with Chanel, after she saw the expansion he has achieved. In April she opened up the Glasgow South territory, the firm’s fourth in Scotland.
She said: “I had a dawning realisation that I wanted to own my own franchise. There are husband-and-wife teams in the Home Instead network but they’re part of the same franchise office. It’s a bit different for us.”
The group said it has a further 24 territories available north of the Border, with legislation in Scotland now giving people the right to choose how they are cared.
Suhail said: “The first year was tough because personal care is free in Scotland, so paying for private home care was a relatively new concept to the market. However, we have persevered and things are going very well indeed.”
