Woman to open letter to self live on stage in Edinburgh Fringe show - ten years after she wrote it

A woman is to open a letter to herself which she wrote ten years ago - live on stage in a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Amy Fraser wrote the letter to herself when she was seventeen and about to leave home to study at the University of Glasgow.
Now, her show, A letter to ME, from ME, about ME, will see her open the missive during a one-off Fringe performance.
Ms Fraser, who worked as a manager in the office of an MSP before the last election, came across the sealed letter at Christmas last year, when a family tradition of writing prediction letters from the coming year reminded her about the first letter she had written.
“I wrote it when I was 17 and then put it away and forgot about it,” she said.
“My brother-in-law just said ‘wouldn’t it be funny if you did a Fringe show about it?’ And here I am.”
She says she cannot remember anything about what she wrote in the letter.

“I was 17, about to leave high school and I’m imagining it will be quite reflective,” she said. “But I’m sure I’m not doing now what I thought I would be doing. I have a vague memory of thinking I’d be married by now and I probably thought I’d have three kids, 27 seemed so old. I remember thinking, ‘that’s just so far away’.
“I imagine I probably thought I’d be working for the UN, in some kind of peacekeeping role. I also imagine I was talking about family and friends, some of whom are going to be at the show, so that could be interesting.”
She has scripted the first half of the show but admits she is going to have to improvise the rest as she does not know what the letter will contain.
“I want to react with the audience,” she said. “I’m expecting there to be some surprises. I think my expectations for myself have changed.”
“I’m quite worried it’s going to be embarrassing or quite boring,” she said. “Hopefully if it’s really dull, everyone will just laugh along with me.”
The show is Ms Fraser’s first solo performance.
The sell-out show, at The Melting Pot on Calton Road, is to raise money for breast cancer awareness charity Coppafeel!, which is the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity.
