Watch: Whisky Mouth, a new work by Scottish composer Jay Capperauld, performed by the SCO
This St Andrew’s Day, the SCO is delighted to share a new piece of filmed music that celebrates Scottish identity, humour, and musical tradition
Whisky Mouth is a new work by Scottish composer Jay Capperauld, performed and filmed by the SCO in Leith Theatre, Edinburgh. Deeply rooted in Scotland’s vernacular musical culture, the piece weaves together beloved Scottish reels - including The Ale is Dear, Sleep Soond in da Mornin’, Money Musk, Loch Leven Castle, Jenny Dang the Weaver and The High Road to Linton - imagining them as if they were revellers at a lively, late-night Cèilidh, each tune personified and chatting animatedly over a dram. The result is a colourful, witty and heartfelt musical conversation.
