The films with Scottish links up for this year's Oscars
Frankenstein was filmed in Edinburgh, while Hamnet is written by Edinburgh author Maggie O’Farrell
A film shot predominantly in Scotland is one of the leading films nominated for awards at this year’s Oscars.
Frankenstein, which was filmed in locations around Edinburgh, as well as Glasgow, Arbroath, Aberdeenshire and East Lothian, has been nominated for nine awards.
Sinners leads the way with 16 nominations, breaking the record for the most Oscar nominations previously held by 2016 hit La La Land. One Battle After Another has 13 nominations, while Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value equal Frankenstein with nine.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh-based author Maggie O’Farrell has been nominated for best screenplay, with her adaptation, co-written with director Chloe Zhao, of her own novel, Hamnet.
Hamnet has a total of eight nominations, including best screenplay and a best actress nomination for Jessie Buckley, who plays Agnes Hathaway, the wife of William Shakespeare.
Buckley will compete against Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Emma Stone for Bugonia, and Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value.

Irish star Paul Mescal had been widely tipped to be nominated for an Oscar for his role in Hamnet but was missing from the supporting actor category. Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn were both recognised in the category for One Battle After Another, alongside Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Stellan Skarsgard for Sentimental Value and Lindo for Sinners.
Michael B Jordan, who plays twins in Sinners, is nominated in the leading actor category, where he will face off against frontrunner Timothee Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.
After filming the Oscar-nominated film, Frankenstein director Guillermo del Toro, who was not nominated in the best director category, described Scotland’s capital as a “cultural centre” and said the experience of shooting in Edinburgh was “extraordinarily friendly”, adding that he planned to return.
Crews shut down areas including the Royal Mile and St Giles Cathedral to shoot the film.
O’Farrell, who was born in Northern Ireland, but lives in Edinburgh, said it was “wonderful” that Hamnet had been nominate for eight awards.
Hamnet executive producer Laurie Borg said: "I think when we made this little film we never thought we'd get what we've got today.
"It's rather been a marvellous five minutes."
Ariana Grande missed out on a supporting actress nod for her role as Glinda in Wicked: For Good, with the spot many expected her to fill taken by Elle Fanning for Sentimental Value. Wunmi Mosaku is nominated in the best supporting actress category for her role as Hoodoo priestess Annie in Sinners.
Sinners director Ryan Coogler is up for best director, alongside Chloe Zhao for Hamnet, Josh Safdie for Marty Supreme, Joachim Trier for Sentimental Value and Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another.
Zhao previously made history as the second woman – and the first woman of colour – to win the best director Oscar, for Nomadland in 2021.
A new category for “best Casting” has been introduced at the Oscars in the first new category in decades.
The Academy Awards will be hosted by Conan O’Brien in Hollywood on 15 March.
The ceremony will air on ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player in the UK.
