She is the glamorous host of TV show The Traitors, whose elegant fashion choices are as talked about off screen as the dastardly tactics of the contestants.

Now, Claudia Winkleman is to wear clothes created by a Scottish designer who trained under Alexander McQueen on the new celebrity version of the hit BBC series.

Edinburgh fashion designer Judy R Clark, whose eponymous brand has previously been chosen by stars including Annie Lennox and KT Tunstall, as well as Courtney Love, contacted Winkleman’s stylist, Sinead McKeefry, to suggest her designs could suit the television presenter.

Ms Clark’s designs, including a £425 ebony puff sleeve knitted jumper and a £400 ebony charcoal knitted tank, were due to be worn by the host on Friday’s edition of the series.

“I reached out to her stylist to say that I think there is a real synergy between Claudia’s style and my pieces and she got back in touch to say, ‘we absolutely love them, please send some’,” she said.

She sent a number of items for consideration by Ms Winkleman, who has become known for her style, which has been described as “gothic-heritage" and “country-chic aesthetic”.

She said the pieces chosen by Ms Winkleman’s stylist were from her ready to wear collections, but had been given some extra Traitors twists.

“A few of the pieces have been bespoke made to make them more dramatic in silhouette , so they look very Traitors-esque,” she said.

Ms Clark, who completed an internship with the late Alexander McQueen in London before establishing her own design house and has been named by British Vogue as One to Watch, said: “It’s been really exciting, it’s been on the cards for a while, so I’m glad to be able to finally share it.

“She’s a real style queen and I think everyone will be watching the series in anticipation to see what she’ll be wearing.”

Ms Clark, who is based from a studio in Edinburgh’s Abbeyhill district, uses Scotland-manufactured lace and Harris tweed to create award-winning designs which have been worn by a number of well-known performers.

“We’ve had Annie Lennox at the Royal Albert Hall, she’s another awesome person to work with,” said Ms Clark. “I made her a sparkly piece and a big frock coat for her event there. I had Freya Ridings and I made some things for her recent tour in Australia and most recently I’ve been working with KT Tunstall on some pieces as well, so it’s been really fun.”

Celebrity Traitors, which this year features stars including Richard E Grant, comedian James Acaster and Miranda Hart as well as singer James Blunt and Scottish actor Sharon Rooney, is the second series of the celebrity version of the show, filmed in Ardross Castle in the Highlands.

The new episodes will see the 21 famous faces take on various challenges in the “ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust”, following Alan Carr’s victory during the first celebrity edition of the hit reality show.

Last year’s celebrities also included Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie and Jonathan Ross, with Carr winning over runners-up David Olusoga and Nick Mohammed.
