A photograph marking the iconic goal which secured Scotland a place in next year’s World Cup is now on show in a national gallery.

In November, Hampden Park erupted as Scott McTominay smashed in a phenomenal overhead kick in a crucial qualifier clash against Denmark. A 4-2 victory secured Scotland's place in the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time since 1998.

Now the goal has been immortalised in a photograph by Ross MacDonald, hung in the Portrait gallery on Edinburgh’s Queen Street.

A spokesperson for the galleries said: “Fans said the goal belonged in an art gallery, and now it is.”

The photograph is free to see at the National Galleries: Portrait on Queen Street in Edinburgh until 5 January 2026.
