First ever stage play of 'literary masterpiece' thriller to tour Scotland
The Silence of the Lambs was released as a novel in 1988
The first ever stage play adaptation of classic thriller The Silence of the Lambs is to tour Scotland.
Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Gina Gionfriddo and directed by Nikolai Foster, the play, which will hold its world premiere in Leicester as the first show of a UK and Ireland tour, will visit Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Originally a 1988 novel by Thomas Harris which has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, the story became a hit Hollywood film in 1991, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.
Ms Gionfriddo said: “Thomas Harris’ novel speaks so eloquently to the interior terrors that fuel his iconic characters – both the monsters and the heroes who slay them. What a privilege it has been to bring these stories to the stage.”

Aberdeen Performing Arts chief executive, Sharon Burgess, said: “The Silence of the Lambs is a literary masterpiece synonymous with the thriller genre, with the film version widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time, so we are really excited that it’s coming to Aberdeen on its first tour as a stage play.”
The Silence of the Lambs will be performed at the Theatre Royal Glasgow, from 24 to 29 August 2026, at Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre from 1 to 5 September and at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre from 8 to 12 September.
