Your bank balance can be seriously boosted if you can avoid the dreaded Strictly elimination.

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing is nearing its climax - with only four celebrity dancers left.

The semi-finals take place this week, with reality TV star Amber Davies, EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, internet star George Clarke and former Lioness Karen Carney hoping to make the final.

Strictly first aired back in 2004 and has become the world’s most successful reality television franchaise - there are version in over 60 different countries around the world.

Presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who have announced this season will be their last, there have been 22 series of the dancing competition, with former winners including the likes of Caroline Flack, Bill Bailey, Joe McFadden and Alesha Dixon.

The winner receives the famous Glitterball Trophy, but there’s also cash up for grabs - for both the celebs and the professional dancers who partner them.

Here’s what you need to know.

How much do the celebrities get paid for appearing on Strictly Come Dancing?

The BBC has never confirmed how much they pay the famous faces who take part in the gruelling competition, but pay rates have been widely reported.

It’s thought that all the celebs get a minimum payment of £25,000, despite Apprentice star Thomas Skinner saying he got paid “ten grand” for being elminated first this year.

If they get past the first few eliminations this is thought to nearly double to £45,000.

Getting to the quarter-finals is thought to net a celebrity £60,000, while the three finalists get £75,000.

And winning the whole competition is a real money-spinner, with a £100,000 reward on top of the Glitterball Trophy - along with plenty of publicity.

Those who embark on the UK live show can expect to earn plenty more cash.

How much do the professional dancers in Strictly Come Dancing get paid?

Unlike the celebrities, the pro dancers get a flat rate for appearing on the show - with no bonus for progressing further in the competition or even winning.

They are reportedly paid between £35,000 and £50,000 for the series, which includes training their celebrities and appearing in the various professional dances thoughout the year’s episodes.

Again they will boost their earnings by appearing in the live show that tours the country after the series conclusion.
