Sports Personality of the Year 2024: SPOTY date, presenters,watch and shortlists - including Luke Littler


It’s that time of the year again - as the BBC celebrate 12 months of sporting excellence.
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award (or SPOTY) was first held in 1954 when around 14,500 voters decided to crown Christopher Chataway over fellowrunner Roger Bannister.

Hide AdSince then the winners read like a roll call of British sporting greats, with the likes of Andy Murray, Mo Farah, Chris Hoy, Lewis Hamilton, Kelly Holmes and David Beckham all lifting the trophy.
Last year saw footballer Mary Earps take the main prize.

When is Sports Personality of the Year 2024?
The ceremony will be held, and the winners announced, on Tuesday, December 17.
Where is the ceremony being held?
The SPOTY ceremony has moved about in recent years, including being broadcast from Glasgow’s Hydro Arana in 2014. This year it is being held at MediaCity, Salford, which is the home of BBC Sport.

Who are the presenters of SPOTY 2014?
With Gary Linekar, who has presented in recent years, stepping back from BBC duties the Sports Personality of the Year Award will be presented by an all-female team comprising Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott.

Who decides the SPOTY winners?
A team of experts, including sport stars and journalists decide the majority of the awards. For three of them - the main award, the Young Sports Personality of the Year Award and the World Sport Star of the Year Award - they come up with a shortlist that is then voted on by the general public.
