From ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Die Hard’, to ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ and ‘The Bishop’s Wife’, there’s a Christmas film for everybody.
In recent years festive movies have become big business, with a huge number released on streaming platforms.
Netflix even has its own Netflix Christmas Universe (or NCU), comprising multiple films with fun crossovers, returning stars and ‘Easter eggs’ for sharp-eyes fans to enjoy.
This burgeoning industry has seen filmmakers look to Scotland for the kind of snowy landscapes and picturesque castles beloved by American viewers.
As well as these newcomers, Scotland has also provided the backdrop for a number of celluloid Christmas classics over the years.
So, here are 10 festive films set in Scotland - and not all of them involve a beautiful American woman falling in love with a hunky member of the Scottish aristocracy (don’t worry though, several of them do).

9. A Castle for Christmas (2021)
Scotland's very own Netflix festive guilty pleasure is 'A Castle For Christmas'. It tells the story of a bestselling author who travels to Scotland to escape a scandal. She falls in love with a castle, but needs to deal with the truculent duke who owns it. It stars Brooke Shields, a variety of questionable Scottish accents, and takes place in a Scotland where Edinburgh and Glasgow seem to be a short cab ride from the Highlands. | Contributed

10. Lost at Christmas (2020)
Filmed in just 12 days around Glencoe and Fort William, 'Lost at Christmas' is a pleasingly shoestring romcom written and directed by Ryan Hendrick and starring Kenny Boyle, Natalie Clark, Sylvester McCoy, Sanjeev Kohli, Clare Grogan and Frazer Hines. The setup is simple - two strangers stranded in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas Eve team up to try and get home in time for Christmas. Think of it as Scotland's 'Trains, Planes and Automobiles'. | Contributed
