It’s been nearly four months since Doctor Who spinoff series The War Between the Land and the Sea hit screens, created by Russell T Davies and starring Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jemma Redgrave and Colin McFarlane.
But one person that didn’t appear in the five part miniseries features characters from the franchaise was the Doctor himself - last seen when Scottish-Rwandan actor Ncuti Gatwa bowed out of the role last May.
But the BBC have confirmed that Doctor Who WILL be back in a new 2026 Christmas special, again being written by Russell T Davies.

BBC producers have said they remain"fully committed to the show" and will announce plans for the next series "in due course to ensure the Doctor's adventures continue".
This is despite the fact that they have parted ways with Disney+, who have shown the last two series outside the UK.
Speculation is now at fever pitch over who will replace Gatwa - who transformed into a very familiar face at the end of his last episode.

9. Danny Dyer - 7/2
'Eastenders' favourite Danny Dyer has done it all - from being one of Harold Pinter's favourite stage actors and winning the Bafta for Best Male Comedy Performace for 'Mr Bigstuff', to appearing in some very questionable films and the (we think) iconic BBC quiz show 'The Wall'. He's 7/2 to play the Timelord next. | Getty Images for the NTA's

10. Paul McGann - 4/1
'Withnail and I' actor Paul McGann never really got the credit at time for his performance as the Eighth Doctor in a 1996 television film Doctor Who - but it's now highly-rated by fans. He'd be a fascinating choice to return to the role for a full series. He's a 4/1 shot. | Getty Images

11. Lydia West - 9/2
'Years and Years' star Lydia West is already part of the Who Universe, having voice the character Vivien in the audio play 'Doctor Who: The Sorcerer of Albion'. She's a 9/2 shot to take on the title role next. | Getty Images

12. Diane Morgan - 5/1
First finding fame as her comedic alter-ego Philomena Cunk, Diane Morgan has gone on to write and star in comedy 'Mandy' and appear in the likes of 'Motherland' and 'After Life'. She's priced at 5/1 to add Doctor Who to her impressive CV. She completes our list of likely Time Lords. | Getty Images
