Starring Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, the new teaser trailer for Lanterns has landed.
HBO has released a new teaser trailer for upcoming drama series Lanterns, giving comic fans their first look at the show’s take on the Green Lantern powers.
Due to be released in August, the new show is part of James Gunn’s DC Universe with the new footage diving deeper into the lives of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who are members of the Green Lantern Corps; an intergalactic police force.

Played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, respectively, the trailer teased the return of Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who first appeared in 2025’s Superman.
The show will also star Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald as Sherriff Kerry, with American actress Laura Linney in a currently unknown role.

Lanterns has been described as a True Detective-esque take on the comics, which brings the out of this world powers of the Lanterns to life with a grounded, Earth-based mystery.
Those who wield the Lantern power rings, which are fuelled by willpower, are able to create glowing green constructs of anything they desire - something which was on show in the new trailer.

The summary for the show reads: “The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
However, according to Entertainment Weekly, Lanterns will play out between two timelines. Viewers will meet Hal and his mentee John in 2016 as they investigate a shooting they believe has alien ties, while the second timeline will pick up ten years later - following the events of Superman.
