Biffy Clyro musician to quit tour over mental health and addiction issues
Musician says he is now receiving professional help for his illnesses
Biffy Clyro bass player James Johnston has said he will not join the band on its upcoming tour as he battles mental health problems and addiction issues.
The musician said he had kept his addiction “concealed for a long time”, but said he was now receiving professional help for his illnesses.
The band’s tour is due to start in Belfast in early January before playing in Glasgow later in the month - and is set to travel Australia and New Zealand over the summer.
Many of their dates, including the concert at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, have sold out.

He said: "I am heartbroken to let you know that I will not be joining the band on the upcoming tours.
"For some time, I have been living with mental health problems which have led to addiction issues that I have kept concealed for a long time.
"This has caused significant problems for myself and everyone around me - the time has come to properly address my illnesses and deal with them."
He said he was “extremely sorry” to his band mates Simon Neil and twin brother Ben - and revealed Naomi MacLeod would be taking his place as bassist.
“I cannot think of a better person for the job,” he said. “To all our fans, your support means so much to me.”
Last month, the band was forced to postpone its US tour - less than week before it was scheduled to start, due to visa issues. Frontman Neil took to social media to announce the tour was being postponed until next year, blaming an admin error for the delay.
He said the problems had not been able to be resolved, despite the band contacting Congress for help and added dates would be rescheduled for April or May 2026.
